Collection: Angry Whale - Mark Moxley

Angry while first hit the underground graffiti scene in Buckingham during lockdown, using his pseudo tag illustrated as a bee. Hundreds of stones were placed around his home estate for people to find and collect with joyous quotes, happy pictures and positive reminders that everything would be okay.

A second lockdown brought mini figures hidden around Lace Hill depicting scenes of lockdown, images to bring a smile, and stark reminders of human resilience. This gave rise to a news article and won him a neighbourhood award. Meanwhile the stones inspired the local residents into decorating a long trail of homemade designs which were placed into a winding snake design. This was immortalised in concrete and now sits near the school and was opened by the Mayor. It is now known as the Lace Hill snake.

Appalled by the way the government are demolishing the countryside to make way for the HS2 railway affecting nature and livelihoods, the mini figures began whitewashing original oil paintings of landscapes. It was important to use oil paintings instead of prints as not only is the texture beautiful, but the uniqueness and skill of the art is something he applauds and champions as a fellow artist.

The figures then got restless and vandalistic and began graffitiing people’s work enjoying the juxtaposition of old masters’ paintings and the bright bold colours of street art and graffiti tagging. This then spiralled out of control and they now tag anything they can get their hands on. All the mini artists are often figures designed to be waiting for a model train to arrive, but instead have their limbs manipulated into artists poses. Some are army figures, stripped of their uniforms, arms, survival kits and honour into often tattooed, balaclava wearing hoodlums with Nike high tops, low slung jeans and hoodies.

The graffiti is inspired by artists down your street and around the world.

You can also see his set design artwork in the upcoming Buckingham community panto, Aladdin!
