Collection: Ramsay Ross Textiles - Dawn Ramsay

I am a surface and pattern designer with a deep love of textiles and colour. Over the past 20 years, I have explored a variety of techniques—silk painting, Procion dyeing, screen printing, stitching, and drawing—to decorate and embellish both fabric and paper.

A turning point in my practice came during a visit to Chenies Manor House and Garden, where I discovered their dye garden. This opened my eyes to a new way of working: using plants to colour fabric. Though I initially bought a few plants to experiment with, it wasn’t until several years later that I fully embraced this approach. Drawn back to nature, I began creating my own dye garden. Whenever possible, I use plants grown from seed or gathered locally to produce unique, often unpredictable, botanical prints and naturally dyed fabrics.

I work mainly with recycled cotton, silk, and wool. Each piece goes through multiple processes—mordanting, rinsing, dyeing, and washing—allowing the fabrics to breathe and absorb the living colours of the plants. Through this slow and intuitive process, I aim to honour the beauty and spirit of the natural world.
