I have been a professional photographer all my life, working to a brief, a budget and a deadline. Nowadays I follow my own path, inspired by the world of visual creativity in every medium, and focusing mainly on landscape. Landscape photography has its limitations; it really struggles to portray in two dimensions all that we perceive in three. So I avoid the conventional structures of landscape photography, preferring a more expressive feel, with a nod to the abstract. This will often take me to a two-dimensional structure, few vanishing points for me. Most importantly, I look for a striking image well composed within the frame. Recently I’ve taken a strong interest in digital drawings, using the circle as a basis, and occasionally going back to earlier photographs as a source. (I’ve done a lot of food photography in the past, for an Italian cheese company, so that’s probably why I now find myself drawing circular pictures of continental salads !!)
